The environmentally friendly version of Foamkore.

Foamkore-Green is an environmentally friendly NAF (no added formaldehyde) product that provides a lightweight panel with structural integrity at a greatly reduced weight. It consists of a Eucalyptus fiber hardboard face with a polystyrene foam core.

Foamkore-Green uses a plantation grown Eucalyptus fiber hardboard face that is managed under environmentally sustainable techniques that have been certified by FSC® standards. The core material is polystyrene foam that contains up to 40% post-industrial recycled content that helps reduce the impacts associated with extracting and processing new virgin materials. This core material contains no added formaldehyde.

Foamkore-Green can help provide credit points for the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program to provide a qualification for environmentally preferred products. Foamkore-Green assists in qualifying for MR 4.1 and MR 4.2 – products that incorporate recycled materials, EQ 4.4 – wood products containing no added formaldehyde and MR 7.0 – contains wood products from FSC certified forest.

Foamkore-Green provides a weight reduction of 50-80% when compared to particleboard and MDF in 3/4" thickness. A much greater weight reduction is obtained when comparing to thicker materials. This allows for thicker panels to be used where normal heavier panels would be prohibited.

Foamkore-Green will allow for a variety of face materials to be added such as: veneer, laminates, paper, graphics, and other similar thin materials. Balanced construction should be maintained when applying faces. These materials can be applied by hand methods, vacuum press or by cold and hot press methods. When using mechanical presses, care must be taken to ensure minimum pressure and temperature is used correctly. Contact factory for more information on these processes.

Foamkore-Green can also be special ordered with a veneer pre-laminated to the hardboard to produce lightweight architectural panels. The stable Hardboard face provides an excellent surface for veneer application which will provide a high quality finished product. Please contact your distributor or the factory for information on veneer availability and other options.

Foamkore-Green is available with an optional internal edge frame that can allow for more conventional assembly construction methods. Internal bands are available in solid lumber, MDF and particleboard. The configuration on these internal materials can be custom made to match requirements in width, thickness and location. In most applications these materials can also be available in FSC® certified product.

Foamkore-Green panels are available in a nominal size of 4' x 8', 4' x 10' and 4' x 12'. Panel thickness can range from 3/4" up to 3" with custom customer thickness easily available.

“Prior to using pre-kerfed substrates provided by Interior Products Inc., we painstakingly saw-kerfed plywood panels manually for use in radius millwork applications. Interior Products flexible substrates have cut our skilled labor costs dramatically. The variety of materials supplied by Interior Products (Kerfkore, Timberflex, Flexboard and Ultralite) lends itself to numerous applications and options: panels, doors, curtain walls, mouldings and traditional curved millwork. We can use Interior Products in applications where the weight of plywood panels would be impractical.

Using Kerfkore we can create inlays in flat panels, then bend the panel. Applying inlays to already curved surfaces is tedious, if not impossible. Designers and architects have been delighted with the creative flexibility we can offer them.

During the construction of millwork at Nationwide Arena, Columbus (Ohio) new NHL hockey arena, the designers came to us with a fabrication problem. The original design for a concession area included a steel channel in an elliptical shape suspended from the arena's ceiling. When the structural engineers reviewed the plans, they objected to the fixtures the weight was too great to be properly supported. The design team asked us to find a solution. We used Timberflex to create a curved ceiling fixture painted to mimic the steel channel. Even the steel fabricators were fooled, and the fixture was incredibly light. Interior Products gives us options that we never had before.”
